Capital allowances, done honestly
It is your money. We help you claim it honestly, and we show our working for every penny. Here is what we believe, where we came from, and how we work.
An open book, on purpose
Six years applying our expertise in capital allowances to help commercial property owners claim the relief sitting inside their buildings, that most had no idea was there. That is what PTRC is, and it is what we have done, day in and day out for six years.
This is a market full of firms that overpromise, plant fake reviews and dress desktop work up as a survey. We are here to prove it can be done differently: openly, straight, and in a way that stands up to scrutiny. We show our working, we are honest about what we are and are not, and we would rather lose a claim than oversell one. We are also not a faceless name at the end of a phone. We are happy to get in the car and come to you, to see your building and meet you properly, because there is a real person behind this work and we would rather you knew who you are dealing with.
Why we do this, how, and what we provide
We started PTRC because the money built into a commercial property belongs to the person who owns it, not to the taxman, and not to a chancer who cold-calls with a number. Our mission is simple. Get that money back for you, prove every penny of it, and do it in a way you would be happy to explain to anyone. Here is the why, the how and the what behind that.
The money is yours
We believe the money locked in your building is yours to enjoy and invest, and that getting it back should never cost you your peace of mind. In a market full of chancers, we are here to prove it can be done honestly, openly, and in a way that stands up to scrutiny.
We show our working
We educate and engage and get to know you before we ask for anything. We show our working through SiteRegister, our own tool, with every figure underpinned by HMRC's own manuals and guidance. Then an independent accountant, yours or ours, reviews it and makes the claim. We are not accountants or tax advisers, but we are experts.
A report that stands up
A fully referenced capital allowances report that shows what a good claim looks like and gives your accountant everything they need. Every figure is sourced and the working is shown, so it stands up to scrutiny, and nothing is filed until a qualified accountant has reviewed it. You only pay when a claim succeeds.
Six years, and still here
This is a market full of firms that appear, make some noise, upset a lot of people and then vanish. We have been doing this for six years, through Covid and everything since, and we are still standing.
Longevity in this business is not an accident. It is what happens when you treat people properly and do the work right. Our average Google Review score sits at 4.7, and it is real, earned the honest way.
What we hold to, every time
- We engage and educate first. Most people have never heard of this relief, so we make it make sense before we ask for anything.
- We show our working. You and your accountant get the full report and the HMRC guidance behind every figure.
- You choose the accountant. Yours or one of our panel, the claim is always reviewed and submitted by a regulated, insured professional.
- We are honest about what we are. We do not give tax advice, and we do not submit claims. We are not accountants or tax advisers, but we are experts, and six years of real reviews is the proof.
- You pay only when a claim succeeds. No upfront cost, no deposit.
Small enough to care, big enough to get it done
We are a small firm of professionals who work as a team, and we bring you into the whole process rather than keeping you at arm's length.
The bigger firms get lost in their own admin. A claim gets passed from department to department, and somewhere along the way the client stops being a person and becomes a file. We have watched it happen, claim after claim, because between us we have worked for and with some of the largest capital allowances firms in the country. We also have a former HMRC adviser on the team.
So we do it the other way round. At PTRC, one person looks after you from the first call to the finished claim. You always know who you are dealing with, and they always know your claim.
Real people, real names
The forums tell you to ask who will actually do the work. Fair enough. Here we are.
Ben Hawkes
Ben founded PTRC and built it into a firm that treats this work as something to be done openly and properly. He is also the CEO of an AI company and an executive and performance coach, and he holds a BA in Politics and International Relations and an MBA. He served as an Army reservist and was awarded the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Medal for that service. He lives in the South West with his family, and now sits on the board as an adviser, focused on strategy, standards and keeping the firm honest as it grows.
Mark Phillips
Mark is the person most clients deal with directly. He brings 20 years in finance, investment and banking, including eight years in capital allowances, six of them here at PTRC and two with competitors before that. Before all of it he served eight years in the Royal Engineers, and the same steadiness shows in how he works today: nobody is rushed, oversold or left in the dark. Outside work, Mark is a family man and a keen cyclist.
Darrell Phillips
Darrell keeps the whole operation running, and looks after every capital allowances claim from the first call through to the finished report. Behind him are 28 years: two decades in banking and finance, and eight years in capital allowances, six of them here at PTRC and two with competitors before that. Before any of it he served as a Chief Petty Officer in the Royal Navy, where he learned the discipline and the steady hand this work needs, especially on the more complicated claims.
Our part, and the accountant's part
Think of it the way a GP works with a specialist. Your accountant runs your tax. We are the specialist they bring in for this one job that sits just outside their expertise.
The report
We engage and educate the client, identify the potential qualifying expenditure through SiteRegister, and deliver a fully sourced and referenced report using property information, a variety of sources and HMRC's own manual and guidance.
The claim
A regulated, insured accountant, your own or one from our panel, reviews the report, decides eligibility, and submits the claim to HMRC. We never make the submission ourselves to ensure oversight and a rigorous process.
See whether there is a claim in your property
A short, no-pressure conversation. There is no upfront cost, and you only pay when a claim succeeds.
